Don't watch me draw... by DestinyBlue Don't watch me draw... by DestinyBlue
She clutches her sketchbook to her chest as she sees you peering over. "S-sorry, I just wanted to see what you were drawing" you stammer as she frowns. "You might see more than you bargained for if you go staring at peoples thoughts" pouts the girl.

I bet you can imagine what inspired this! ;) I reaaallly dislike when someone stares or leans over me to see what I'm drawing; you would never dream of doing that if someone was writing their diary! I don't mind if people ask, but it's personal stuff....

How do you feel about people watching you draw? Any stories to tell..? :)

Peace, Love and Privacy,
~Blue x

I do draw many personal things in my sketchbook, and I don't really mind when people ask me to see the drawing of a simple dragon that I'm doodling.  But when I'm drawing a screaming face of anger or a girl sitting alone in a dark corner with the words of death a fear shrouding her, I tend to become over protected.

Sometimes my brother will steal my notebook when I'm drawing this, or my crazy friend, then I go berserk and scream for it back.  Once someones eyes catches it, I know they are going to ask me: "That's scary, why would you draw that?"

I hate it when people ask me that.

Worst of all (and most hilarious), when I'm drawing a dragon, the person peering over my shoulder sees it goes: "Wow!  That's so cool!  I wish I could draw like that..."  I'm just like, "Thanks...?  But really I'm just like, "GO AWAY."

Then they ask me if I can draw one for them.  * SHUDDERS AND LOOKS TERRIFIED * :P

My sketchbook either has anatomy practices (essentially just tons of naked people) and my practices with abstract art, surrealism, and dark shit.
If someone peered at my sketchbook, or took it, they'd think I was either a psychopath or a pervert. They wouldn't be wrong about the latter, but still.
Giddafuck away from my drawings bro

One guy in my class stole my sketchbook and ran away, and he opened it while running. I caught him and slapped him with my sketchbook, but the next period (homeroom) I was told by my teacher to let her check my sketches if they were appropriate. I said 'no' and the teacher asked me to stay after class.

apparently, my classmate had luckily flipped open to the ONLY TWO pages that was lingerie/panties/breast/kissing etc. so he thought my entire sketchbook was full of nudes. Anyways, I showed some of the drawings I was comfortable showing my teacher and found out my teacher likes to paint landscapes :3

Oh my goodness, that sums up my life!
"Why are those boobs so big?"
"Wtf is that supposed to be?"*whilst looking at a very emotional drawing I've made to get my feelings out"
The worst is when I am drawing on the bus (as I always do) and someone sits next to me and blatently stares at my work, not even trying to hide it, YES I KNOW YOU ARE LOOKING, and because of these people I have to either stop drawing or go to extreme measure to cover it from their sight.

It is plain rude to take someone's sketchbook and get snappy with me when I don't allow you to look through it. "But so and so got to look through it!" THEY DIDN'T RIFLE THROUGH MY PERSONAL SKETCHES. The only people I don't mind looking at my drawings while I draw are my closer friends, two of which also sketch so it's great.

So please, respect the privacy of people's sketches because most of the time, they are much like a visual diary, or the drawings mean something important to them.

Whenever someone looks while I draw, I just stop until they leave. XP

And sometimes in my head I'm like: Go away please...:stare:

During the little free time I have in the classrooms, I like to take out my sketchbook. When I can see from my peripheral vision people watching me draw, I start feeling very anxious and I try to cover it without being too obvious (I am also an author, and I do the same when I see anyone peering over my shoulder at my writing).

I know I should appreciate the positive comments such as "You're really good at drawing" I sometimes get from curious eyes, but instead I rush to cover it up before they see more.

Sometimes I get somewhat mortifying comments such as "Why are her boobs so big?" "You didn't finish shading this part yet" "Why are they naked? Is this porn?" or "Why is a girl kissing another girl?" and the occasional aggravating comments such as "Draw me next!" or "You didn't draw that, it is traced!"

I also do not like when I am drawing in class, and a teacher or student asks me to see what I am drawing, and I politely tell them no, but then they insist I show them and they start tugging on the edge of my sketchbook. I hide my drawings for the sake of privacy, not that I am worried that "they will laugh."

There are those moments where I briefly leave the classroom and return to catch someone looking through my drawings without permission; it is quite nerveracking.

A friend of mine shared an interesting story to me of a time she drew a picture in class expressing her interest in horror. Her teacher happened to see what she was drawing, and they took the drawing away from her and refused to return it to her for being "too morbid" even after her parent was reached and they came to retrieve the drawing.

I usually just get constant "You're not supposed to be drawing!!!!!!!!" regardless of whether I'm done with all my work or not, not that it's their business either way. For me, the biggest stinger is "Is that anime?".

I'm trying really hard to develop my own style, as I was never really good at anime-styled drawings to begin with, so that comment is essentially pouring salt on my wound. I know that they mean no harm by it, but they say it so weirdly. Like it's a bad thing, or a weird thing, to draw anime. Which I'm not even drawing agh--

I've never had a teacher get pissy about my drawing or the things I write in class (unless I'm drawing/writing at times I shouldn't be), but a family member I'm not particularly close to tried poking around in it, and it was like instinct when I sucker-punched them right in the jaw, took my sketchbook, and bolted. It was like if you saw a stranger carrying your child around by the foot; you knock the fucker out with no remorse.

People need to treat artists more respectively. If they wanted their artwork to be seen, they'd post it or hang it up on a wall, or personally show you the drawing. If they aren't doing any of that, stay the hell away. It's called decency >:0

I was REALLY scared to show ANYONE what I drew when I got better at drawing. I would freak out when my family asked. Drawing is what I love and I have to work harder then most to do it. I didn't have talent but I had determination. I was on DeviantArt for almost 1 1/2 years before posting things regularly. I hate people looking at my drawings without my permission if I want it to be seen I'll show you. (That was longer then I thought it would be!)

I love drawing and I'll show people if I'm comfortable with it, but when they constantly peer over me and watch I hate it, hate it, hate it! Especially all the comments..

"What are you drawing?"
"Can I watch?"
"Why do you cover it? Is it diiirttyyy?"
They don't say anything, they just TAKE my sketchbook and start looking through it!

Happens to me all the time. I think it's nice that they're interested in my art, but I hate it when people take my sketch book and flip through it. (Mainly because I have vent art in there, and it's just rude in general.)

omg, yes, it's so annoying when they just critique your work while you are in the middle of working... and then they ask a million a questions about what you want it to be like... ugh...
IS831fan9 Featured By Owner 1 day ago  Hobbyist Writer
And then they ask me to draw them, and I usually say no because why should i? I mean, I will draw someone and their lover because I think their reactions are cute when I give them a good drawing of them being cute, and they actually thank me and compliment me. I don't mind that because they ASK. They don't demand, they ASK.

The things I draw can get a bit obscure or dark, so I don't like when people look over my shoulder to take a peek, and ask if I need to see someone about my "issues." Once I was writing a poem in school, and the teacher looked at it over my shoulder, then led me to the guidance counselor. I was mortified and mad at her for looking at my personal life, and then deciding actions for me that she thinks "would be best". The poem was gonna have a happy ending too!

This image actually brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of my granddaughter except she had dark hair.
It will be the first anniversary of her death this Saturday Aug1st,2015. Her name was Shayna and she was 20 years old. Our sons only child.
She had been a vibrant healthy lady, working as a hair stylist. She got mononucleosis which turned into HLH which is a rare disease that attacks the immune system. If not diagnosed on time most are dead in 2 months. She was admitted to hospital June 1st and passed away exactly 2 months to the day.
The reason this reminds me of her is because at the celebration of her life there were images of her artwork all over the funeral home and we were not even aware of her artistic talent.Maybe she didn't like people watch her draw.Heart

I hate that because I draw really depressing and gorey things when i feel down so I feelz embarressed when they look at it and say wtf.

-Can you draw me?  No.
-Can i see?  Fuck off.

And I don't even own talent. I mostly draw to relieve feelings. Imagine what a talented artist has to put up with.

I hate when I'm really into a drawing and suddenly the silence is broken by someone with questions like

"Ew why are they naked?"

"What's wrong with their face? What are those lines across it?"

Oh and these ones are my favourite. "How come you never want anyone to see what you're drawing?"

It's worse when little kids look over your shoulder and constantly pound you with questions and practically interrogate you on why you're drawing each detail so. XD It's the worse when it's a sensitive topic (like lgbt, suicide, etc.) and you're not sure if the kid knows what it means.

I also struggle with that same thought. That's why i usually do my hobbies in my bedroom and when someone sees my drawing that i don't want them to see i just tear it and burn it into ashes.

I have a secret sketchbook under my bed and I literally poor my heart into the drawings in it. It broke my heart when some of my friend came over for a sleepover and found it, and then started laughing at it. Lets just say I didn't ever talk to the them again.

Ninety percent of the time, they immediately ask if it's anime, and then ask if I can draw them as anime. Have also had rude people on the bus lean over and loudly proclaim "wHAT THE HELL IS THAT??", causing the heads of my neighbors to turn and all focus on me. Llama Emoji-06 (Depress) [V1]

Sometimes it's a love-hate relationship. I really, secretly, want someone to look over and see my work. But to really see it for what it is, and appreciate it, understand it. It's one of the deepest (and sometimes darkest) parts of myself, but then I remember previous experiences with cruelty and suddenly I curl in on myself; like the petals of a once-blooming flower.

I was being a youth leader at a girls camp once and I quickly got the reputation of being the really good artist (even though that's not entirely true. I'm still learning, but hey! I enjoyed the compliments still.) But one of the other youth leader girls admitted that in biology when the teacher would drone on she would just watch what I was drawing. She said she wanted to compliment me on my drawings but felt as though that would have been creepy so she didn't say anything. I was kind of surprised, but tickled at the same time.
